Meeting is SoCal.

Por gnzlzspd | Mar, 29/04/2008 - 12:18
Announcements and Events

Invitation:

You are cordially invited to attend the SoCal meeting. At the present time about 12 members in the Southern California area have expressed their desire to attend.

The month of June is not the ideal time to hold the meeting because members have vacations and graduations that take preference over this meeting.

Southern Calif Meeting in June

Por kitty_cortez | Sáb, 26/04/2008 - 06:39
Announcements and Events

Hi John
Please keep us posted on a So. Calif meeting. Even thou we are from the Sacramento area, we plan on being down in So. Calif for a wedding on June 28th. Saturday day would not work for us, but a Friday evening, Saturday evening, or a Sunday would work. Even June 21st week-end would work for us since we hope to meet Rich's cousin in San Diego and that date is unsure, since we have to wait for his ship USS Cleveland to come in ( approx Jun 24th).

Gilbert,
Don't expect to find a great deal of information in the Mexican cemeteries. Many graves don't have headstones and some headstones don't have names. The cemeteries are not maintained the way they are in the states. Best way I've found to search is still through the films archived by the LDS Church, order the film for defunciones / Death records and scroll through one record at a time. Most of these films are from the Catholic church's archives.

Salvador Quintero Del Rio

I have met and read persons Jewish Ashkenazim(sp?) that went to South America in many locations before, during, and after WW II assimilated into their new countries, those I know kept their faith, but it is highly conceivable if in concentration camps they kept their huge secret. I out different have read about different detention camps, I am no expert but Germany I believe was the only tattoo of your description. it was mostly their families that helped them escape or relocate, The Nazi's were helped by the Catholic Church to relocate to South America. You may want to try Holocaust Survivor web sites to see if you find similar stories.

Daniel,

Thanks for responding to my question.
Does your Antonio Martinez have any siblings?
What is his birthdate?
What are his parents names and did he ever live in the U.S.?

Hopefully your answers will help me in my research.

Joseph, I was really excited that one of my cousins, Daniel Lopez Jimenez, wants to join nuestrosranchos. I know that his wife is Castellanos/Diaz and hopefully bring more info with him. While he presently lives in Iowa, he did live in Jamay for many years, and I am sure his knowledge of areas around Jamay, La Barca, Ocotlan, Guadalajara and other places will be of benefit to us.

Gutierrez y de La Torre

Por cjg63 | Dom, 20/04/2008 - 09:49

Hola to you!

I spoke to my father today and he told me that the Gutierrez family had a Rancho El Monte in Acatic. My De La Torre's had tha Rancho El Sauz. I have been to Acatic, Tepa, etc visiting family when I was a youngster. My dad also said that his parents were married in the Church in Acatic. I had an Aunt Clementina from Acatic. In my fathers family my dad and one uncle took the last name Gutierrez, my other uncle took the name De La Torre. I have pictures of Rancho El Sauz, or what was left of it taken in 1980 the last time I was in Acatic. My Aunt Esperanza said all of the land has been sold off probably in 2000. I know absolutely nothing about my family other than the pedigree I posted. My dad is 71 and cannot remember much, but, I am going to see my Aunts this summer in Dixon Ca and will try to see if they remember anything.

Helyn's Inspiration: El Salto de los Romeros ????

Por makas_nc | Sáb, 19/04/2008 - 13:07
Genealogy Research

Even though I absolutely love Helyn's website:

http://pueblosamerica.com

I couldn't find the one place I've been searching for: Rancho del Salto de Los Romeros. I think this Rancho is no longer in existence and I can't seem to find historical maps that have it either. I guess it isn't critical that I find it other than I just would. The below scans from the 1855 census has it 4 Leguas from Santa Maria and sandwiched between Rancho de las Precitas (3 Leguas) and Rancho de los Sauces. I can find El Sauz which is probably the Los Sauces but I can't find my Rancho del Salto de Los Romeros. I found some information about Leguas below but don't know what else to do. Anyone have any thoughts about finding a historical town about 14 miles from Santa Maria de Los Angeles in Jalisco?
