Some of my relatives were born in Sollatlan (frequently it is written as Soyatlan), Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco. Some come from Sollatlan de Adentro and others from Sollatlan de Afuera. Does anyone know what that means? Thanks.

Soyatlan de Afuera y Adentro

Juan Carrillo
I talked to an uncle also born in Tamazula de Goridano, Jalisco about the meaning of Sollatlan / Soyatlan de Adentro o Afuera. He told me that Soyatlan islocated outside of Tamazula de Gordiano heading towards Ciudad Guzman. At one time there was a sugar mill there located in a hacienda. The residents who lived within the old hacienda lands were from Soyatlan Adentro and outside were Afuera. Thanks to all who inquired and suggested items. The families that were born there were the Carrillo, Antillon and Contreras families that I was investigating.

Juan, I do research in Tamazula and Zapotlan that always includes some family being from Soyatlan de Adentro and Afuera. What families are you researching? I have no idea what it means either.

Sollatlan (Soyatlan), Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco

Adentro means inside, afuera means outside but I don't know how this translates to the naming of the area or rancho. It may have meant something at one time in terms of location or municipality.
Hope this helps,
alicia

Sollatlan (Soyatlan), Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco

I lost the link to a website that described the three Soyatlans within the municipality of Tamazula, but they all have the same GPS coordinates and are less than a mile from each other.

Soyatlan de Afuera, and Soyaltan de la Prensa are very near each other, and Soyatlan de Adentro is not far and it said that the Adentro was where the Hacienda is. So I guess the others were "outside" of the hacienda?
