  • Ordering copies of documents through Salt Lake City
Por Rose Hardy | Dom, 01/06/2008 - 09:24

Due to the slow turn around time at Salt Lake for ordering microfilm. I have started to order the documents I need. It takes about 2 weeks to get the copies. I ordered 3 microfilmed rolls and now it's been over 2 months. They are running very far behind....I had heard about 6 months behind.
I first check familysearch.org and obtain the necessary information on the person I want the document on and use form: "Request for Photocopies-Census Records, Books, Microfilm, or Microfiche"

The form can be downloaded from: http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?cat…

The item # is: 31768000

Hope this information is helpful for those who are new or those like me who are inpatient. I still would like to see the film....but I get antsy.

Happy New Month

Ordering copies of documents through Salt Lake City

For those of you, who are impatient on waiting for microfilms. I usually go
to the FHL in Salt Lake once a month. If you would like, email me your
lookups, and I can do them.

Ordering copies of documents through Salt Lake City

For those interested, my trip this month to the FHL, will be about the 28th
of June. So if any of you are interested in any lookups, send them to me,
and make sure that the films are in the library and not the vault.

Ordering copies of documents through Salt Lake City

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you, and I appreciate your offer as to looks-ups. But can you tell me, how do I go about checking to see if the film that I want searched, is in the library and not the vault ? Also are the copies to be received through email, if I decide to send you my request?

The way to tell, if a film is in the library or not. Is by looking in the
Library catalog. If it says FHL International, FHL USA, etc, it is in the
library. If it says vault, it is not in the library and needs to be ordered
into the library, that takes about 2 days for the film to the llibrary.

And on the lookups, that I do, I send a scanned copy by email. The libaray
has some digital scanners avaiable to make copies from the films. If I can't
use one of those scanners, I make a paper copy and then scan the paper copy
and sent that.

Follow up questions: When you do this, and fill out the form they send you, is it just like ordering rolls, or do they send you a photocopy of the individual original record you're trying to get? And how much does each request cost when you fill out the sheet they send you?

Jonathan,
How generous! One question, maybe a dumb one, but how does one know if the films are in library and not in vault?
Thanks!
