Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know I have finally published my genealogical work on my father's family from Nueva Galicia.

The Gonzales, Calvillo, Ramos, Alva, Macias and Flores families immigrated to Azusa in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, California in the early 1900’s. These families and their descendants came from various towns in Nueva Galicia which covers the span of nearly 600 years.

The towns involved include Aguascalientes, Asientos, Calvillo, and Rincon de Romos in Aguascalientes; Teocaltiche, Santa Maria de los Lagos (Lagos de Moreno), San Juan de los Lagos, Ojuelos, and Jalostotitlan in Jalisco; Nochistlan, Sierra de Pinos and Villa del Refugio (Tabasco) in Zacatecas.

There are 246 surnames and these families are listed alphabetically. Common surnames include Alva, Calvillo, Carrillo, Chavez, Delgado, Delgadillo, Fernandez de Palos, Flores, Gonzales, Lozano, Macias, Oliva, Perez, Ramos, Romo de Vivar, Rubalcava, Ruiz de Esparza, Santos, Saucedo, Texeda, Tiscareno and Ximenes just to name a few.

I received your book in the mail yesterday. Congratulations. It is a great compilation of very valuable genealogical information.

I notice that you have Colotlan parish records listed as one of your sources and I was wondering if you could point out what branches/surnames are from Colotlan. Just curious to see if we have some common ancestors. I know that some of my Tepechitlan families must have come from Nochistlan, i.e. "Gonzalez de Yslas" etc are definitely Nochistlense names.

The San Luis Colotlan, Jalisco families are the Montoya, Banuelos and Rubalcava's. I do hope you find the book helpful. For the past 5 years this is how I conducted my research by alpha order and the more names I found, I'd pencil them in until it grew to the size it is today. Genealogy is never done so I'm sure there will be later editions down the road.

okay Rose so tell us about your Banuelos. What are the details could be
that you and I are cousins as my gg grandfather Cecilio Puente was
married to Dominga Varela and her parents were Esiquio Varela and
Soledad Banuelos.

I highly encourage you to try to get it distributed as far and wide as possible. I recently donated copies of my book to a number of libraries including the Los Angeles Public Library and the Library of Congress.

In addition to being a great source of pride, I think it is important that that our research get recognition and shelf space. Walking into many genealogy collections at libraries would lead to you believe that the U.S. population is all of English, Irish and German descendancy.

The Library of Congress Genealogy Reading Room dedicates a whole six inches of shelf space to Mexican genealogy.

Talk to George Farias at Borderlands Books about distributing your book. He gets orders from many libraries that collect Latino/Mexican genealogical works.

I totally agree with you about distribution. I have The Library of Congress and Los Angeles Public Library on my list. I also donated to Sutro in San Francisco and Azusa City Library, where I was born and raised. I do have George's e-mail and have referred my cousin, John to him for his book.

We certainly do need to share our history.

Just had to write and congratulate you, it must have been years and years of research. I will definitely purchase your book as it covers some of my areas of research, Teocaltiche, Aguascalientes and Nochistlan and some of my family surnames, Carrillo, Rubalcaba, Ruiz and Ruiz de Esparza and others.

What an accomplishment!!
