Help: Indice #10- what does that mean?

    Hello Everyone,

I am very new to this group. Help Please!

I think I may have located my grandfather's christening at the Family Search >Mexico>Zacatecas>Momax (Bautizo). I found his name at the front of the book and it stated Delfino Alvarez Pag. 10. I went in to page 10, I searched under his birthdate too and could not find it.
How do I locate the record as stated in the index?
    Here is the link:

    https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-15206-2660-73?cc=1410092&wc=…

Any advice greatly appreciated. I am so excited. :)

    Thanks,
    Pauline

    Pauline,

The index isn't always correct. You need to be a real sleuth. My system is give or take 10 pages before or 10 pages after what it states in the index. The birthdate isn't always at the top of the record, the first date on the record is usually the date of the baptism. The birth date will be a few lines below for that same record. Usually states the name of the child, his or her parents and then the birthdate. Each town is slightly different in how they make their entries.

    Hope this helps.

    Pages numbers vs folio numbers

In some volumes only the fronts of the pages are numbered ("folio" numbers), and you may see indexed names with numbers like "10f" or "10v", meaning front and back. In these volumes the "f" or "v" can also be left off.

In other volumes, the numbers are actual page numbers.
