I am new so excuse me, but if I want at least one and possibly a total of six records from a San Diego De Alejandria that is on the film list, whom do I contact? Thanks.

Films on Permanent Loan

Maureen:

Not all of the films in the films database are on indefinite loan to members. The database serves two purposes. The first is simply to provide an easy way to search the LDS databases by municipality and date... the database provides batch numbers and a direct link to familysearch.org simply by clicking an "IGI" or "VRI" button next to a film. The second purpose, which is to show which films are on permanent loan applies only when there is a name next to the film name. If there is no name, that means that someone has simply entered the batch number to the film but does not have it on indefinite loan.

Thank you for the info! I have a suggestion. Could we also have a section for films member are ordering for short term? For example, I have two films from Valle de Guadalupe on order and they should be here sometime in November. I would be happy to copy a few records for members, if anyone wants records from these films. There are deaths 1904-1942 1151042 and baptisms 1904-1916
1151036. I could then scan the documents. If we had a list of films members
are ordering and are willing to share information with others who may need the same film, we would save time and money. Work as a group. Has this been tried before and would the LDS frown on us for doing something like this?

Extra work

Dear Joseph:
I am sorry, I did not realize that this would cause extra work on your volunteer force. In the excitement of an idea you never think of that! If I had any programming skills I would be happy to do this. Alas, I have none. But anyway, the offer still stands for the Valle de Guadalupe tapes and I will post other tapes as I order them. It is usually one or two every few months.

Films on Loan

Maureen:

I think the database can accomodate what you are looking to do without requiring any reprogramming. You can put your name in as a borrower, even if you don't have it on permanent loan and pehaps just anotate with the date when it will go back. You can then simply go back into the database when the date comes and delete your name as a borrower.

What is probably more helpful (and can be done in addition to the above), given that not everyone is always in the Films database would be for you to simply send a message to the group stating that you have ordered such and such films and if anyone needs records from them you are willing to accomodate their requests.

Thank you for your input. Definitely don't hold back on your ideas. We may not be able to implement all of them but hearing them is invaluable.

Films

Dear Arturo:
Thank you. Since not everyone goes into films, I will send a note of films I have coming and if anyone is interested, I would gladly copy and scan records for them. Don't worry, I will let you know if I come up with any more ideas. I will try to make sure next time that it will simplify your work :)

this is possible but I don't think it is doable because it would add
extra burden to all the work (volunteer work I should add) that Arturo
has already done. Now if others in the group with programing skills were
interested in this project (me = no programing skills) I see possibilities.

LDS would not frown on us doing look ups for each other.

working as a group is the whole reason I built the original Ranchos
group back in 02'
