I noticed a few of us with roots in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. I visited Teocaltiche in 1998. I visited with the local cronista, Senor Rameriz, the uncle of author Nicolas De anda Sanchez.

I have been going through the IGI and ordering films, but having a difficult time getting pass my great-grandfather Mauro Rodriguez.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope your new year will be filled with rewarding family research.
I was going through some old (really OLD) email messages this morning - the "Ancestry.com" newsletter that I had been ignoring for quite some time, and came across a reference to this site:

Mora Family from Ocotlan, Jalisco

Profile picture for user Lamomexico

History, Culture and General Discussion

I am wondering if anybody has any ties to the Mora family from Ocotlan. I have Jose Antonio Mora born in Ocotlan 1806. Parents were Rafael Mora and Gertrudis Baca. I found a Jose Rafael Mora born in 1786 in Ocotlan, Jalisco, but I haven't been able to confirm if it's the correct Jose Rafael Mora. I was wondering if any members have any Mora line tying into the southern end of Jalisco. Jose Antonio Mora married Trinidad Villaroel of Atotonilco el alto, Jalisco in 1826 in Ocotlan. Please if anyone has any information would they reply it would be greatly appreciated.

dna testing

By RaquelRuiz | Fri, 2008-12-19 21:35
Announcements and Events

I just learned the www.familytreedna.com has a December sale on at least some of their test kits when purchased through one of the projects (you can generally fit yourself into one of the posted projects. There is a Mexican Surname Project and lots of specific surname and geographic projects.) The Y-DNA37w/ mtDNAPlus kit is $199 (I paid over $300), and the Y-67DNAw/mtDNAPlus kit is $308. I don't know what the latter one was before, but that represents a good savings. I only wish I had known about their apparently traditional December-only sales.

FolkTales-Spirit of Giving

Genealogy Research

I've just updated my file on Rootsweb.com. Most of the research in for the district of Jerez Zacatecas but there is also research from Tamazula and Zapotlan El Grande/Ciudad Gusman Jalisco and then to Michoacan in the 1780's and earlier. The file is too large to post on Nuestros since there are abt 59,000 names. I hope there is something of interest there for many of you researching those areas.

Need help: de Aranda-Martin Sotomayor (marriage) & Lorenza Moran Montoya (christening)

By Jaime Alvarado | Tue, 2008-12-16 14:10
Genealogy Research

Three weeks ago I requested photocopies from LDS, but the microfilms containing two of the records I requested were badly damaged, and they did not send copies. Instead, they suggested to visit my closest Family Research Center, and extract the info directly from the microfilm. Unfortunately, the center closest to me does not have these films, so I need your help. These are the two records:

Macias and Limon in Teocaltiche

Rudy and Esperanza,

Congratulations on the discovery of your connection, the excitement is palpable and there's nothing like it, to finally make that familial connection.

That's what brings us to this group, the hope that we'll learn about ourselves by learning about our ancestors, and if in the process we make a connection with a family member, it's a homerun.

I need help with "braceros"

Hello all!

My father was a "bracero" (laborer contracted in a group). I think "bracero" term refers to "brazo" equal to "arm" for labor or work in the U. S. during, but not exclusivly, World War II and Korea War.

New Member Introduction for Rudy Munoz

By 5 MUNOZ | Tue, 2008-08-05 20:30
Genealogy Research

Good Evening,

I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to the group. I have just recently begun to research my family roots. I am new to this so please be patient with me until I get up to speed with all of you!!! It has been a difficult task obtaining famly information since most of the family with the key information has passed on. The branch I am currently focusing on is for my Paternal Munoz & Macias lineage. My Grandfathers name was Jose Gutierrez Munoz who was born in Tlachichila, Zacatecas in 1897. My grandfathers parents names were Magdaleno Munoz & Nolberta Gutierrez. The only other info I have on this line is the name of my gg grandfather Rafael Gutierrez. From what I am told Rafael had two wives. However, no one remembers their names! Any help with this branch would be very welcome. Nolberta Gutierrez had siblings by the names of: Margarita, Thomasa, Basilia & Rafael. Magdaleno Munoz had only one sister by the name of Diega who married a Santellan.
