Hi, all:

Well, I just saved myself $5.95 by checking out the Chihuahua Catholic
Church Records for Cusihuiriachic on the Family Search Pilot site. I was
disappointed they do not have Uruachic records, but then Uruachic may not
have had a church and I'm still trying to find out where the nearest church
was. Anyways, I am very grateful and thankful to those who took the time
and put all this online, so we can save time and Money!

Yes, Jalisco is another area I'd like to see some records come available.
In Chihuahua, these small villages can have records on one microfilm
spanning a hundred years, while in Jalisco, you usually see only 6 months or
a years worth of records on one film. It can get costly. Of course, I
can't help but still be thankful, because I don't have to travel to find my
Roots, like people used to have to do. Although, I do hope to be able to
see all these places I have been reading about!

What are IGI Batch numbers? Batch numbers where assigned to extraction projects. The extraction projects where of different types of records, christening, marriages, defunciones, etc.... Oftentimes there are many Batch numbers assigned to a specific locality. Each batch can cover several years of extracted information from that locality. For instance, batch C02419-7 corresponds to about 5,000 christening records of: Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico from approximately 1639 to 1715 and the surnames are in alphabetical order (keep in mind that the extractors made some mistakes). So, one can search by the batch number and see all of the extracted records from that batch in the locality of interest.

Once you know the batch numbers for a given town and time period you can look up that batch by going to:
• www.familysearch.org
• Then click on the record search tab (located to the right of the Home tab)
• To the left are the words International Genealogical Index, click on them
• Very important- select the region as Mexico- do not select a state.
• Beneath "Batch Number" input the batch number.
• Press "enter" or click on "Search".
• A list of all of the extracted names for that batch will populate.

If you are a member of Nuestros Ranchos, the process is even easier than
Eduardo's explanation. Simply click on Films and then the state that you
want to search on, then find the relevant sacrament and year range, e.g.
Baptisms 1754-1812 and click on either the IGI or VRI button. You should go
directly to familysearch.org's extraction for that batch and be able to
browse the extarction or click "refine" on the upper right and enter any
piece of information you have. Once you have a batch number there are no
restrictions as to what you can search on, i.e. you can simply enter the
mother's name and that is sufficient to refine within a batch.
