What do folks know about the historical relationship between our area of
research (Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes) and Guanajuato?

Yes I understand that is such a general question but really any of your
thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks,

joseph

Guanajuato ?

Joseph,

A historical relationship between states? In what context--migration, establishment-?

Most of us in the group, those of us from the US anyway, have more ancestors that migrated north to Chihuahua or Leon. I don't have any ancestors from Zacatecas (and my husband doesn't have any ancestors from Jalisco), that migrated to Guanajuato. I know very little about Guanajuato, except that many migrants to the US are from there. It had a very rich silver mine centuries ago, and many Indian tribes. I don't know when it became a state.

I am left to wonder why you were thinking of a "relationship" between Guanajuato and our ancestral states. What led you to think about it?

Guanajuato ?

I know there are many of my Castanon's found in Guanajuato before they are found in Zacatecas but have not been able to connect them to my lines yet. Other than that one line I have found links to Jalisco from Guanajuato
early 1700's to late 1600's but have not pursued them since they were not direct links to my lines.Seems to me Daniel Mendez has links to Guanajuato? Am I correct Daniel?Linda in Everett

Hi Linda and All, I do have some lines to Gto. My Serrano line (grt gf Francisco Méndez wife Lucía de Serrano's lineage came from Gto, and believe it comes from Michoacán but need to prrove it. Also for us Alteños we have our Franco lines who came from Silão and León) Im making a map showing at least my ancestors movements and where spanish tended to be in LosAltos area hopefully ill send it soon on Ranchos.

I am chasing a fleeting "Puente" from Guanjuato and imagining that this
Puente might be one of my Puente's but I have very very little to base
that on and just wanted to know if there was any kind of historical
relationship between the two areas. For example when I first started the
group it was only for Jalisco and Zacatecas since I didn't know the
strong historical association that Aguascalientes has to the these two
states and I was thinking well who knows that there might also be some
historical info about Guanajuato that I'm ignorant of that I should know
about.

It all started when over a 100 years of records that I need in
Zacatecas, Zacatecas turned up missing but there is a confirmation
record for the 1749 time period that I'm hoping will turn up my Justo
Rufino Puente GGGG grandfather. In that film there is this Agustin
Puente whose wife is Juana Rodriguez and there is this one record that
comes up on the www.familysearch.org site for this couple and they seem
to be from San Felipe, Guanajuato.

Anyway I don't have any other leeds and as slim as this one is I'm
dreaming that this might open a door or two. There does seem to be a lot
of Puente's in the state of Guanjuato. I wish I could do a massive Y-DNA
comparison with all the Puente's who have proven historical roots in
different parts of Mexico and find out where my GGGGG grandfather
Antonio Puente was from "IF" he was not from Zacatecas, Zacatecas.
