What microfilms and other records do I need to research to find more information about the families that traveled to New Mexico from Zacatecas around 1598?

I have the book "New Mexico's First Colonists. The 1597-1600 Enlistments for New Mexico under Juan de Onate, Adelante & Gobernador" by David H. Snow.

I hope to find baptism, marriage and death records. What are the names of the towns and settlements in Zacatecas where the people lived?

Juan de Oñate expedition

Hi Stanley:

The Oñate expedition sounds familiar to me because many of my ancestors took part or were related to it.

Firstly, Juan de Oñate is my far uncle because his father Cristóbal de Oñate was the brother of my ancestor María Pérez de Oñate who was married to Rodrigo Díaz de Zaldívar. Also Juan de Oñate's mother is my ancestor too but I descend from her first marriage to Ruy Díaz de Mendoza y Arellano del Río of a very illustrious family, then she married to Cristóbal de Oñate.

Another of my ancestors, Juan Guerra de Ressa, although he didn't took part in the expediton he was the main economic financier of it.

Two other ancestors where actively in the expediton, their names where Alonso de Sosa Albornoz and Vicente de Zaldívar. Also an uncle, Juan de Velasco y Zúñiga son of my ancestors Alonso de Velasco and Juana Bernal de Zúñiga y Guzmán was an important character in that journey.

The site that Paul gave to you is perfect. It's very well detailed, I think it will help you a lot. Here's the exact link to the Oñate expedition: http://garyfelix.tripod.com/~GaryFelix/index5E.htm

Juan de Onate expedition

Good Afternoon, Stanley,

My wife is a direct descendent of Bartoleme Romero, who was one of the men of the 1598 Onate party. He was from Corral de Almaguer, a small town near Toledo, Spain.

Have you gone to Gary Felix's web site? It is garyfelix.tripod.com. You will find there a list of the men who accompanied Onate

Best wishes on your research.
